A Call For Renaissance - Rebirth of The Artist Within Society

From painters and musicians to writers, photographers, and designers - artists possess a unique ability to create experiences that touch our souls, evoke emotions, and challenge our perceptions of the world around us.

The value of an artist’s unique creative experience and process simply cannot be compared to that of mass-produced goods and services, as their products, services, and creations offer something much more profound and significant to our lives. Can artistry be measured? The experience that an artist can give is something that cannot be replicated or duplicated or measured in literal sense. Each piece of artwork is unique and personal, reflecting the vision and process of the creator. A painting can transport us to a different time and place, a song can make us feel emotions we didn't know we had and can create significant impact to the listener, and a movie can challenge our beliefs and perceptions. These experiences are not simply things we consume, but moments that have the power to shape who we are and what we believe in.

A belt made me change the way I see and think about value.

Weird, I know. But I was thinking of a belt that is created as a product and a belt that is a result of an artistic process and craft. I could get in my car right now and drive to the store and purchase a leather belt. A mass produced item created for efficiency. Meant to serve many, still created with a purpose. That belt is a product. Then I thought about the difference the process of creation makes on the outcome of the final product. Consider the work of a leather artisan. The maker whose hands know the leather grains as well as the back of their own hand. The hands that have been perfecting their craft, often passing it down through families, through an artistic process. That is art. Art that cannot be replicated and the value the artisan brings to that process is immeasurable.

One of the most significant differences between mass-produced goods and services and the work of artists and creatives is the level of connection and personalization that comes with the latter.

Each work of art is an extension of an artist's thoughts, feelings, connections, and experiences…who they are. It is their personal story that they share with the world and experiences, and that connection is what generates lasting impact in the lives of those we interact with. When we buy a mass-produced item, we are buying something that has been manufactured for the masses, with little consideration for individuality or uniqueness. In contrast, the work of an artist is crafted with a specific intent and purpose that speaks to each of us on a personal level. It is purposefully crafted through artistry.

The work of artists and creatives also has a significant impact on our society and culture.

Art has the power to inspire and influence social and political change, to bring people together, and to create a sense of community. It also provides a platform for marginalized groups to tell their stories and have their voices heard. Art has always played a vital role in shaping our world, and we cannot underestimate its power or devalue the work and experience an artist or creative offers that cannot be replicated or duplicated.

Passion fuels our creativity, but passion alone can’t sustain a business.

Unfortunately, the value of the work of artists and creatives is often misunderstood in our society as we have been groomed to enjoy the benefits of mass produced goods and the luxuries of instantly gratifying services, but we simply can’t compare or value the work of an artist to a mass produced service or product. It is different - that’s what sets it apart. We must recognize that the work of artists and creatives is not just service fulfillment or entertainment but an essential part of our cultural and social fabric. It is through their work that we can learn and grow, challenge our beliefs, and connect with others on a deeper level. We have the power to generate impact and touch lives. The value of artists and creatives cannot be measured in tangible form. We provide experiences that are unique, personal, and transformative and we must recognize and support the work of artists and creatives, not only for their personal livelihood but for the betterment of our lives and life experiences as a whole. Support your local artist!
