Weddings can be anything you want them to be, and tradition doesn't have to dictate how you celebrate your big day. Re-invent the wheel or create a new shape entirely.

Many people feel pressure to adhere to certain traditional elements when planning their wedding. From the dress code to the venue, the flowers, the music, there can be a lot of expectations placed on couples to follow the "rules" of weddings. But the truth is, there are no rules!

There is no right or wrong way to get married. Your wedding can be as unique and creative as you want it to be, and you don't have to feel restricted by the idea of what others have done historically.

One way to break away from tradition is to focus on the things that are most important to you as a couple. Do you love the outdoors? Consider having an adventurous outdoor wedding ceremony. Are you both foodies? Choose a unique and personalized menu that reflects your favorite local spots. Do you have a favorite color palette or theme? Incorporate it into your decor and attire. The possibilities are truly endless, and you should feel free to make your wedding your own in whatever capacity you would like.

Another way to make your wedding more artistic and one-of-a-kind is to incorporate elements of your personality into the celebration. If you're both avid readers, you could incorporate literary-themed wedding elements with book-inspired decor and centerpieces. If you're both musicians, you could perform a song together or have live music during the ceremony.

Think about what makes you unique as a couple and find ways to incorporate those elements into your big day. Of course, breaking away from tradition can be scary sometimes, especially if you're worried about how your family or guests will react. But, remember that this day is about you and your partner, and it's important to stay true to yourselves. Plan the wedding day you won’t regret in 10 years. If your families have certain expectations or traditions they'd like to see incorporated, discuss a healthy compromise that works for everyone or set necessary boundaries.

As your photographer and videographer, I am here to support your dream vision.

Ultimately, your wedding should be a reflection of your love and your vision for your future together. Weddings can be anything you want them to be. Don't feel the need to meet tradition or societal expectations. Instead, focus on what's important to you as a couple and find ways to incorporate your personalities and interests into the celebration. Whether you have a traditional or non-traditional wedding, what matters most is that you're marrying the person you love and starting your life together.

Congratulations again, and have fun planning your dream wedding!

XOXO,

Katie Brown
